In the midst of this difficult season, there are no simple answers. We have all endured a lot of rules and requirements with which we may not agree. As we are excited about the opportunity for our community to gather publicly for weekly worship, the follow scripture summarizes the intent of the Oversight Team in making these decisions.
“Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others” (Phil 2:3-4). The point is that in everything we do, we should consider what is best next for not only ourselves but for the entire body. Also, we have been humbled by the generosity of Carmel Presbyterian and others to allow the mission of Waypoint to flourish. For more information about the current status of the church, its mission partners, and ways to connect with others, please check out our most recent Summit Meeting.
Where is Carmel Presbyterian?
Do I need to wear a mask?
Yes, while in the sanctuary, we are asking people to wear masks. Please try to say 6 feet apart from others and use the hand sanitizer stations.
Will there be childcare?
Yes, we have childcare available for newborns up to 5 years.
What precautions are you taking concerning COVID in your children’s classes?
- All adults will be wearing masks
- Temperatures are taken at Check-In
- Each child will have their own bag of materials
- Hand sanitizing stations
Are children required to wear masks?
Children up to age 2 are not required to wear a mask. Children ages 3 and up are strongly encouraged but not required to wear a mask.
In conversations with Carmel, they have graciously allowed us to meet in their sanctuary in the afternoon. We need to be sensitive to their morning worship service and to the time required for properly sanitizing the space in between our two communities. While we realize this is not ideal for a variety of reasons, we felt that getting back into the weekly rhythm of worship was more essential than waiting for a morning option to emerge.
Why not Queens?
At this time, Queens has asked us to stay off their campus until NC moves into Phase 3. We are routinely in conversation with Queens and are grateful that even though their campus is shut down they are willing to welcome us back to the campus once we enter Phase 3.
Will there be coffee or treats?
Unfortunately, we are going to suspend coffee in order to minimize exposure risks. However, we encourage you to take the conversation and fellowship outside to Carmel’s lawn and playground.
What if I am not comfortable gathering publicly yet?
We are committed to offering the entire service live from one of our social media platforms: Facebook and/or YouTube. You will also be able to access the service on demand from our YouTube page by Monday.
Finally, there will be smaller in person gatherings throughout the month of September and October. Contact Chip Cash if you would like to gather outdoors with different Waypointers. Check back here for more details from Chip regarding small group and virtual opportunities.
What if my question was not addressed here?
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Should I attend public worship?
This is adapted from a helpful document given by Covenant Day School. Please review and use your wisdom for what would be best for the entire community.
