“From then on Jesus Christ began to show his disciples that it was absolutely necessary for him to go away to Jerusalem, suffer deeply at the hands of the lay leaders, senior pastors, and Bible teachers, be executed, and on the third day be raised.”
But Peter abruptly took him aside and began to rebuke him, ‘God is merciful to you, Lord! This will never happen to you!’
But Jesus turned on his heel and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a big problem to me because you are not gripped by the concerns of God but by the concerns of human beings.
Then Jesus said to his disciples,
“If anyone wants to come behind me, that person must turn away from oneself and take up one’s cross and live a life of following me. Because whoever wants to save one’s life will ruin it, but whoever throws one’s life away, out of devotion to me, will actually save it. Because what good will it do a person to have won the whole world but to have lost one’s own life?
You see, the Son of Man is just about to come in the glory of his Father, with his angels, and at that time he will award every single individual according to his or her behavior. Amen, I tell you, there are some people standing right here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming with his kingdom.”
